Ok yes another art project. I should probably have a build thread.
Even though I'm an adult, I still watch some cartoons. One of my favorites is Steven Universe.
On the show, Steven's dad, Greg, is a guy who tried to be a rockstar and didn't go anywhere because he fell in love with Steven's mom, Rose Quartz.
One thing Greg still has from his glory days is his trusty muralized van.
I noticed that it is very much a cartoon version of a 70's Dodge Van, so I thought it would only be appropriate to draw it as what it looks like, a mid 70's Dodge Street Van.
So when are you picking up a real van to paint?
In reply to mazdeuce:
Probably never. I want to really bad though.
I would call it automotive cosplay.

I just showed this to my daughter, she offered to paint my van like it...I've never heard of, let alone seen, the show. Might have to check it out.

I like it very much. The show has a lot of anime influence to it. I enjoy the storyline, it is a format that most cartoons don't follow, which is that you actually have to follow the show or you're going to miss stuff. I also enjoy the characters as well as the art.
Check it out, but start from the beginning, you learn things as Steven does.

Cool artwork. The original is clearly an Econoline, however.
I disagree, if you look at the front grill and bumper on the cartoon van and look at any picture of a mid 70s Dodge van, they are very similar. You also can't really see it without zooming in, but there are lines in the grille of the cartoon van that are very much the representation of the horizontal bars in the grilles of the Dodge vans of that era, as well as the turn signals which are in the center of the grille which Dodge were the only ones to do that in the 70s.
I looked at about 50 different pictures of 70's vans and the Dodge Street Van stands out the closest to the cartoon van.
Uh oh what's this? I'm not done yet.
So I've been busy with the new job, but I have a little free time and I didn't want to let my picture sit in my sketchbook, so it's time for a real background. I decided to make this a combo of what I have drawn and the paper crafting that I have been doing.
This is the start:
I will update you guys with more progress as I go.
An update from the last few days.
It's starting to come together, but nowhere near done. I did not realize the complexity of this picture until I reached this point. I have a long way to go and a lot of detail to add yet, both in shapes to cut out and for things I have to draw in, mainly due to my OCD. Nothing is glued down yet either
This will definitely be interesting for myself when I am done.

You need to be logged in on the other forum to view the pictures. I've watched Steven Universe before and was intrigued by the story line.
Dammit, well I will fix that.
There should be fixed now.

Sweet! What about a frame?
That is the frame. I went cheap. If this was for someone else I would probably buy a better quality frame.
