Please stop torturing me. I have a kid to put through college and a mid-life crisis looming. My saving will go towards one or the other in a few years.

I can resist the "base" model Corvette with over 400hp and handling to shame exotic sports cars. No big deal. But that wasn't good enough for you. You needed a Z06 model. Carbon fiber, over 500hp, god-like handling. Perhaps my kid can go to beauty school instead. And then you drop the ZR1. Over 600hp? Oh come on! Lucky for me it is a 6-figure car. My kid's future is safe. But now, you dangle the Grand Sport. Looks like a Z06, handles like stink but costs less. What are you trying to do to me?!?

Haven't you heard? Obama is going to give every kid a free education. And he owns GM. That means YOU can have that ZR1 NOW for instant gratification. Everything else will work itself out later.

But Obama only does it if you stop making payments on all your credit car and car loans.

    Getting back on topic...

The 2010 Grand Sport is very cool. I think it would be the Corvette I would buy.

Most mags didn't like the Grand Sport, I'm not sure I do either.

In concept the finish level seems to fill a gap, but the moniker turns me off. The Grand Sport was the wildest, baddest vette ever built and this is like an early 80's Mustang by comparison.

    80's Mustang?

I'm pretty sure the new Grand Sport would best the old racecar in pretty much every performance catagory. I understand the tarnishing of the moniker because it isn't the BADDEST Vette, but 80's Mustang?

IMHO all new Corvettes are amazing machines. Can't say I'm crazy about the side gills though. Looks a little busy.

    80's Mustang?

80's Mousetongue by comparison to a real Grand Sport

One thing the original Grand Sports had were plenty of gills and vents.

I agree, I don't get the whole parents saving for college education thing. If the kid wants to go to college when they are an ADULT let them figure out how to pay for it, if you have a couple grand to get them started that's nice but really, college is about a lot more than book learnin'. Too many adults today act like children, and I blame parents.

i feel sorry for your kids...maybe some people want their children to at least have the opportunity to go to college and live a better life. Whole nother topic at hand though...this thread is about Grand Sports not putting kids through college.

FAFSA, Stafford Loans, etc. All great places to get $$ for college. Buy the GS and satisfy your primal needs.

And it seems like GM is trying to have all the nameplates of badass vettes from the past on the market to satisfy different niches of Vette owners/fans. GS- Check. ZR1-Check, Z06-Check. Z51-Check.

Any new thread is a fishing expedition. When the hook has GM bait, the first catch is whatever is close and hungry. Besides, well-prepared flounder is quite tasty.

Back on topic, I find any C6 with a roof and M/T a desirable ride. This from one who has always lived by the mantra "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow".

I thought they killed the Z51 to bring out the GS. Or at least the Z51 is on the way out as an option.

I guess it would have been worse to revive the "grand sport" name if they hadn't already done it in the C4 version (same with the ZR1 though), and that C4 was pretty darn good for the age too. Keep in mind that the Z06 was an old road racing suspension package too.

Corvette likes old names like the 911 likes old designs. I dunno - kinda nice to be familiar I guess.

Paint the louvers, extend stripe up and over the fender.

The Grand Sport replaces the Z51 suspension option package. It retains the Z51 suspension but adds the Z06 brakes and dry sump plus the front and rear flares with wider tires on lighter alloys. The 6MT/Hardtop is the one to get, though you can get a Targa or 'Vert GS (with no dry sump).

I love the gills, I think the GS is the nicest looking new 'Vette, and that's really something as I really like all of them!

Sharp looking car but I really don't like that cyclops nostril in the middle of the front bumper. They should have gone with a good old-fashioned hood scoop if it really needed one.

    Hey pinchvalve,

it was a long time ago, actually...35 years ago, that the local newpaper had an ad from a Chevy dealer for a 5 year old Corvette convertible........for UNDER.......$3,000.00. Yes, you read that right, a 5 year old 'Vette for less than 3 grand. So I know what you are feeling.
