Since it appears that we have train fans on here, hypothetical question. Fully loaded 100 car freight train, at 60mph, how far to bring it to a stop?

That is 6th St. in Augusta, GA taken from a couple different spots. I checked it out on google maps, that section of road is probably a mile long. One end is a Yard and the other is a bridge that crosses over the river into South Carolina.

Semi-random, semi-on-topic question: what train line or lines run in the MT/ID/WY area?

BNSF cuts across the northern part of Idaho, all across Montana and into Wyoming.

Union Pacific covers the southern part of Idaho, with a little bit in Montana and Wyoming.

If you think seeing one of these bad boys rolling down the street is crazy, It's even wilder when you're on board. I rode through Fredricksburg, VA on the Amtrak New Orleans Crescent. I couldn't tell from where I sat but I think we even stopped for lights.
