I get the feeling that EBM had been in a few fistfights in his day. No martial arts crap, just well delivered hits to the right places. Bar fighter, maybe learned the art in Saigon.

he knows how to throw a punch and has at least a 50 pound weight advantage... probable more. The outcome wasnt really all that surprising.
He may have been old but he didnt move like it. The kid was a fool for picking that fight.

That was FREAKING HILARIOUS! There is a reason you should respect your elders, not just because they're older than you. They can and will beat your @#$@ if given the right provoking. I got into with my old man when I was 16, I had been in martial arts for years, worked out 2-3 times a day, ran 2-3 miles a day and was a lean 145lbs of "Billy bad @##"(imo), no real winner that day, but the cops were called by the neighbors, I got to do community service on the base to pay for damages in the house, but I've never raised my hand to my old man again, and he's only raised it to me when I deserved it, (only once, I got lippy with my Mom).

I agree. What I should have said was that EBM moved away from the punk, the punk took the first swing. How can you throw the first punch AND call it an assault on yourself?

Unfortunately it used to happen quite often with home invasions, punk breaks in, punk get shot, punk lives to tell about it, or not, punk or punks family sue the piss outta the homeowner that shot them for breaking in.

This reminded me of a little episode that happened 3-4 years ago. My wife's son, a 30 something kid I really like, decided to mess with me, wanted to start something physical. No anger involved, just playing around. To this day he tells people how fast I am. Not really true, but it is high praise.

Bernie ddin't leave his house looking to kill someone, but he wasn't going to cornered and robbed on a train either. Growing up then there were alot of people who might not come out and say it but looked up to him. It was the begining of regular people taking the city back from runaway crime.

Yup. The guy deserved what he got. Although I too would like to see what actually started the altercation.
Here's something I learned very quickly in high school: if two black kids had a fight, no one would jump in, they'd let them fight it out. But the black kids would band together to beat up a white kid.

I have seen him speak a couple times. Once he started to shoot the intent was to kill, which it is anytime you shoot someone, an to hear him talk he may have enjoyed it a bit more than he should have. You also get the impression that he is missing a few screws. But prior to that he was like a number of people who were carring an illegal guin in case it was their turn to be robbed and stabbed. A lot of people felt it was better to be alive to go to court than to be a law abiding dead person.

My dear departed dad once said something concerning fighting and/or carrying a weapon of any sort: don't be the first to swing or draw but make damn sure you are the last one standing.
Goetz showed that no one needs to be a victim and to also not judge a book by its cover. I think that incident started a grassroots movement and made those who thought gang bangin' and messing with people who appeared to be weak or otherwise a good target consider carefully the possible outcome of such an incident.

Eh this is a difficult situation. Yes he stood up for himself, but he really didn't make any attempt to defuse the situation before it got there. It sounds like some more conversation had happened before the video started. However the other guy did decide to make a physical issue out of it. Boo on both of them for that, but kudos to EBM for not just being another victim.
