Anyone done it? Success or failure? Good or bad?

I'm looking for a DVR unit I can plug a cheap camera into. I want to mount the cameras under cars to watch the suspension work. I found one on E-bay that would be perfect, but it's in China.

I've bought a few dozen things direct from China via ebay, and whenever there has been a (usually only minor) problem, it was taken care of promptly. I have no concerns.

Ordered a variable voltage controller direct. Pretty quick shipping and no problems. US versions I could find were $120 - China one was $18 - worked perfectly.

I've ordered from China a number of times. Electronics are hit-and-miss. Toys, jewelry, textiles were all good. Expect mediocre to poor customer service and average to long shipping times, so I usually buy local unless the economics demand otherwise.

I ordered some coax connectors. They arrived promptly and very reasonably. They also sold my paypal email address to spammers.

I found a company in California that had the same thing in stock for not much more money. So I ordered from them. Thanks for the input. I keep the China connection in mind for the future.

Why don't you just wait until they own us? Shouldn't be too much of a wait.

I bought some 20x20 LCD displays on ebay from Hong Kong for prototyping a project on my own dime... worked out fine. Since they cost $40 each here and I was buying them for $4.75 each. My risk wasn't exactly too great. Not sure I'd order something I had to borrow money to afford though.

DX now has shipping points in the US and UK.

I order stuff from China all the time. Most come by Hong Kong Post and takes a few weeks to get from distribution point to my door.

That's largely been our experience at the shop; we've started importing a couple Chinese tools. Lead times are long, you end up paying the tariff, and for electronics some suppliers are more reputable than others.
