I don't have any trinkets or charms, but today I "crunched" a gear change and then instinctively apologized to the car. The weirdest part, is that it was a really earnest apology.
On the day I bought my first NYG Neon, I spotted a small child's toy figure in the gutter while stopped at a light. It was the same color as my newly aquired ride, I took it as a "sign", and jumped out quickly and picked it up. Turns out it was Mike Kazowski, the one-eyed little green monster from the movie Monster, Inc. I hooked his feet into the defroster vent, an he has ridden on the dashboard ever since. I think of him as my Patron Saint to protect my car from bad drivers. It seems to work.
I have a plastic toy bat which my daughter hung from the mirror in the Trooper. There's another one of those 'finger puppet' bats (also from her) which resides on the console. Kid's got a hangup about bats. 
When we were ripping the interior out of the ThunderTerd, we found a little coffee cup about 1 1/2" tall with a bear sitting in it who's holding a steering wheel. On the outside of the cup is, 'If everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane'. It seemed fitting so it's now glued to the top of the IP.
I had a Kenny from "South Park" on the dash of my '84 GTI race car. When I rolled it at Duryea Hillclimb approx 10 yrs ago the corner worker ran over and announced..." OH MY GOD! YOU KILLED KENNY!"
But he will ride again...
I used to keep a little plastic Tasmanian Devil on the front fender of my dirt bike so that he could He could drill through trees and big rocks for me, it seemed to work.
