WPWOP, there I'll say it.
I'm just working in PS now and I freaking LOVE it! The more I use it (totally self taught) I'm blown away by the cool stuff you can do.

pstuts Here's a good place to blow endless hours cranking up the photoshop skills - by the time you're through those tutorials, no one will see the pixels.

I've been using Photoshop since 4.0. I still mainly use 7.0 even though I have CS installed on my machine.

I started using it for work because sending things to India and having to have the image revised 3 times because they dont know what we are saying was killing me! I would just google "how to do in photoshop CS5" and started learning. Here's a few samples of my early work:
This shot was taken on a cloudy day in December down in NC. I like the shot, but it was kind of blah, so I just amped up the greens and yellows and darkened it a bit.

Wow, where do you live, the Carolinas? I just love that tree, saw a few like that on a (too brief) trip to S. Carolina last year. What character!
Sorry for thread jack! I use PS almost exclusively for illustration now - it's so portable (I worked on a drawing while flying yesterday, try that with pen and paint!) and easy to clean up. I use a lot of layers to achieve depth and realism when drawing cars - it takes patience but eventually it gets quicker. Here's the technique I came up with, mostly by trial and error:
