Awesome. I work at The Game Haven, which is about 200 feet behind the guys in the bottom picture. Pretty cool to watch every year. The jets are my favorite.

My dad and I assembled a really basic Cessna model with a little nitro motor in it...wish I'd stayed with it, it was really fun.
That said, I saw a guy with a really nice P51 model (like the one pictured on that second link) lose connection between his transmitter and the plane in the middle of a roll, and it did a nose dive into a soybean field. I'm pretty sure he almost cried.

I still am amazed by the kinds of RPMs a motor in a ducted fan turns. But that was years ago, when they first came out, and were all powered by gas 2-strokes. I didn't even realize they had electrics now.

In addition to electric ducted fans, they also have genuine turbine jets, which put out hellacious power. However, they are not so good for grass fields because A) they scorch the crap out of the pits and taxiways, and B) they prefer paving for the takeoff roll because they build power a little slowly.
My father was a big modeler airplane guy his whole life. I flew some, too, but ultimately didn't stick with it after he died. I wish I had - he had some great airplanes and they were really fun to fly.
This is a French design called a Cri-Cri which means Cricket.
The aircraft is typically powered by two 2-Stroke chain saw engines of 12 Hp each but thus guy installed two model airplane turbo jet engines.
I think his total endurance is something like 40 minutes so technically, he’s only got about 10 minutes flying time given the VFR minimum reserve of 30 minutes but I imagine he just blows off the rules.
