My local Craigs has a '94 SE-R for sale and I am thinking of seriously taking a look at this car with a view to buying. I once owned a G20 and have always wanted to own a decent SE-R.

HOWEVER, Nissan also sold a near "copy" of the SE-R in the Sentra SE. How do you tell, aside from looking for the appropriate emissions stickers(?), whether the car in question is an SE or SE-R? The picture of the car in the ad has correct SE-R wheels, but that's not very diffinitive...as you could add them to any Sentra. Are there badges / emblems (aside from the trunklid?) that are present to tell the 2 models apart?

Of course the best way is to check the engine, but aside from the badge and wheels there's a few small cues. I'm going off memory here, but the SE-R had full-width tail lights (same as the XE) while the SE had the standard tail lights--like the ones found on the base car. The SE-R also had fog lights.

Regular Sentra had a single valve cover, SE-R with the SR20DE has two.

As I expected.

I think the seats in the SE-R were unique to that model. As I understand it they are highly desirable and not cheap if building a fake. The seats are grey tweed with nice bolsters

There is a limited edition model (which has unique taillights, etc) which comes with those seats also, but has the 1.6). The main differences are that the engine looks totally different, and the SE-R has bigger from brakes.
