The silver carp, the leaping variety, are excellent table fare. Many restaurants have it on the menu as "Shanghai Bass". A bounty on all carp would be a fine idea. I have gigged many carp out of a canoe. There is something about going out in a marshy lakeat night with a car headlight in one hand and a spear in the other that I love.

I just wanted to know if they tasted good. Seems like an invasive species that tastes good could be a helluva way to curb hunger amongst the poor. Look at the Nutria (I think that's what them nasty beaver lookin' things are called) in LA. Invasive as hell, ruining the swamps and crap, make great dinner. Good ol' boys can get their fill on them all they want. Sure it might not be a porterhouse or free range tuna, but tasty food is tasty food.

Yes the leads you see on the larger boat are sending a current through the water. When they do a fish survey on a lake, pond, or river they shock the area and see what comes up. It does not kill the fish but everything in the area comes up immediately. I have seen it done on a Georgia lake and it was quite cool to watch.
