So much for the whole renting a hangar idea. Speaking of which, I mentioned the idea to my bro. after reading this thread, as I vaguely remembered him talking about it a couple years ago. He said that it was WAY more of a PITA than the cheap rent was worth, due to post-9/11 policies; and yes, this was at the rinky-dink county airport.

The Boat/RV storage place by my neighborhood has tighter security than the (fairly busy) airport where my buddy keeps his plane.
I'd suggest you look into it again. At every GA airport I've ever been to the "security" procedures are honored more in the breach than in the observance. Some airports may be exceptions, but I'm not aware of any universal difficulties.
I speak as someone who can't count the number of GA airports I've been on in the last five years.

I called the gentleman, he gave me directions to the hangar and told me to meet him at 6:20pm.
He never showed.
I called him the next day and he said he was plowing and got tied up, meet me at the same time.
He never showed.
I gave up.
