My girl just moved up to Erie with 2 roommates into a 3 bedroom townhouse. The lease was from July 24th. However, she didn't move in until mid-August.

She sent the landlord a letter requesting that she be exempt from payment for the July month. The landlord accepted this request and said she was not being billed for July.

Her roommates, however, moved in with the signing of the lease on July 24th.

They are being charged 1/4 of the normal rent for July, yet they want my friend to pay her share.

Is my friend liable to pay for July, although her landlord said she didn't have to, per terms of the lease agreement?

She's got to live with these people. Pay the 1/3 of 1/4 rent.

I agree with Tim... yeah, she shouldn't have to... but unless it's some really crazy amount of money, it's probably not worth getting off to a bad start with your roommates over...

definatly... roomates can make or break your experience in renting. There is a reason I will NEVER have a roomate again... besides the fact I do not need to

If the landlord agreed then the rent should already be 2/3 of 1/4 months rent for July. Either get the landlord to reduce the July rent or pay your roommates. It is not their problem, she signed onto a lease with them that started on July 24, if she was there or not is no matter.
