Does anyone know a source for a new chuck for my drill press? I have a 25 year old Craftsman and I have to realy crank down on the chuck key to get tha bit hel tight enough not to spin in the chuck. Sears does list a new no name original one for $45.00. I want to see if I can find a Jacobs chuck.

You can get Jacobs chucks at NAPA, or any place that sells Danaher Tool (KD) products.

    For that matter try Lowe's?

    I have your answer:

    http://www.cdcotools.com/

Their website is a disaster, but they sell better Chinese stuff than Enco, Travers or MSC at ridiculously low prices. From the main page select the tab "all kinds of die maker's tools" then "Drill Chucks & Shanks, Tapping Heads & Collets"

They have an amazingly nice keyless 1/32 - 1/2" copy of an Albrecht chuck available with either a J6 or J33 internal taper for $22. Then pick the Morse taper adapter to fit the taper in the spindle of your drill press. Those are all 5 or 6 bucks.

I read machinery catalogs obsessively and have a machine shop at work and home, and I will promise that no one will beat CDCO for this one. I've got 3 of these: 1ea in my drill press, milling machine and tailstock of the lathe and they all work great.

Thats a problem. How do I check? It presses on so it is a Morse taper but which one? Anyone know a source for that?

    Machinists Handbook.

Take a photo of the chuck out of the press and I can guesstamate by measuring up the photo.

I have one that goes to 5/8 you can have if it's the same taper.

Edit: Porksboy, look on top of the spindle and see if there's a nut and/or threaded rod sticking out the top. Some chucks are held in by the threaded rod, the taper only locates it on center.
