If you are going to be cheap on a gun purchase, find a good price on a use Smith & Wesson, Ruger, or Taurus. The cheap stuff is junk and its not uncommon for them to grenade in <1k rounds, while you will probably be able to hand down a quality revolver to your grandkids. Revolvers are known to be "as reliable as a rock" but if they break they are difficult to fix (much more so than an autoloader).
