I'm thinking of making a rocking chair out of some of the spare bucket seats I have laying around. I was thinking using leaf springs for the rockers would be interesting. Any ideas what I should look for in the junkyard to dig them out from, or is there a cheap source of new leaf springs that I am not aware of.

Small pickup. Ranger, b series, s10. Either way, even big trucks have small leaf springs. Even the big ones, they just have more and bigger ones in addition.

You might just end up with a bouncy chair though... Hmm... Coils springs...

when I was little.. the local playground had metal animals you could ride... they were mounted on truck coil springs.

Rather than a "rocking" chair.. how about a flat and solid base with some coil springs welded to it that support the chair? If done in pairs, it should move more back and forth than side to side

Be sure to record and post the testing phase. Should be interesting.

some vehicles with rear air ride suspension have softer (coil) springs than the standard vehicles.

haha mad_machine I immediately thought of those playground rides. I have 3 pairs of coil springs under a table in my garage................hmm.........

Take a walk through the pick n pull, bring a rule. Like N Sperlo said small pickups. Larger trucks leafs may be wider and thicker. If you want new, a auto/ truck spring shop can arch whatever size you want. They're also likely to have old spring sets already broken down, look in the scrap bin.

Astros have those fiberglass ones, might be able to drill through the center and use countersunk bolts?
