Recently had a roommate situation end quite horribly. Guy was a serious freeloader/slob type. The irritation went beyond toleration and I decided to throw him out of my house. Disrespect just oozed from this guy's every pore. Noisy, took up alot of room, disrespectful to my special-lady-friend, left messes in my shop which I had to clean up before working on my own E36 M3, messy in the kitchen, messy in the bathroom, messy in the living room (let's not even start with his bedroom), was supposedly broke and could pay hardly any rent yet amazon.com and newegg.com boxes showed up several times a week, took sooooo much for granted even after discussions of issues.

Coming home has never felt so sweet with him gone. I DO wish him well but not in my house.

Anybody ever have a GOOD roommate experience? Anybody else been down the bad-roommate road before?

had two good roommates last year at college, and two bad roommates last year at college.

I currently have the best roommate ever in my future wife.

My wife and I have had good roommate experiences- her son. And BAD experiences- her daughter. Numerous calls to 911, police visits, threats, almost physical violence, nasty. It is clearly understood by all parties that if she comes back, I leave. Sad, but true. And I love my wife.

I had a great roomie one year at college.
He didn't own a stereo, and he didn't come back for the second semester. They never sent a replacement.

Given the percentage of us that probably have disassembled cylinder heads on their kitchen tables, I'm guessing most of us are the jackass roommate.

I had a few great roommates and a few real clunkers.

Ive lived with 15 different people and each one has had their challenges. I probably still speak on a regular bases to about 2/3 of them, the rest, not so much.

Two years at college so far, two great roommates. One was random, one I knew and liked. Next year I have a new roommate, and am really looking forward to living with him. It will be a challenge, because I know I am a slob, and I know that he is not-I'll have to work on that for his sake.

Last semester my girlfriend had one of the worst experiences I've ever seen. The girls didn't mean bad, but they were so stupid and disrespectful of me that it was becoming a problem. They were acting like they needed to approve me, and they didn't. Keep in mind my girlfriend had known them for about 15 months, and had been dating me for about a year. She moved out, now she's happy.

I think its important that if you are picking your roommates, to make sure that you get along, but are not great friends. If you become great friends while living with them, then thats great, but if you start off living with people you are already friends with it is a problem.

My only big problems: Stay out of my personal life, I'll stay out of yours. I'll keep my mess to my own part of the room, I ask that you do the same. If there is only one TV, sports trump all--no questions asked. Everything else will either be on the internet or rerun later in the week. That was the only problem I've ever had with either of them (and it was only one).

Similar tastes in music helps, but I can deal with almost anything just as long as it isn't too loud. Or bassy.

One experience... not so good. Two people with very different lifestyles cannot live together in a house as small as mine.

First year in undergrad had the worst roommate ever, he partied 24/7 and lived like a slob. It wouldn't have been that bad if it wasn't the tiniest flipping dorm room.

Second year in undergrad got a good roommate, he was a somewhat non traditional student. We ended up as roommates again off campus the last 2 years. He turned into a slob as well.

When I finished undergrad I said screw it I am living alone.

I offered my basement to a good friend of mine so he could get back on his feet while dealing with a divorce. He was supposed to be there a year, but lost his job (and didn't bother to find another one) and was there for almost two. Stole food and alcohol, but tried to guilt me about my own drinking whenever he decided he was back to being a "recovering" alcoholic. Carpet destroyed, walls with major holes, filth everywhere, took over a month to get all of his stuff out after he "moved out', and never a "thank you" or an offer to help with damages or even cleaning.

Not so much a friend anymore.

Had great roommates in college. We were all buddies in high school and through college. Heck, my best friend in high school, roommate for four years in college, still best friend.............we ended up buying houses about a 45 second drive from each other!

Only had 1 roommate afte college for a year. I left after she mentioned in passing she was going to raise my rent since I graduated college and had a job offer. We haven't talked since I left.

Had quite a few but the best was the guy who lived with his GF in the condo that daddy was paying for. Daddy said no live in boyfriends so he needed an address and a place to crash if daddy was visiting. Gave me $400 a month (against an $800 mortgage) for a 10x10 room with a bed and I saw him once a week to pick up his mail.

My best friend from high school - Gord - and I rented a house together for university, and we had a third guy to help with the rent. Gord and I got along just fine, but ended up going in different directions and eventually just drifted apart. Still lived together for 3-4 years without problems.

The third guy in second year was pretty weird. He moved in with us because he didn't like Gord and figured that would be incentive to spend more time studying. Pretty good roommate, though - we never saw him and he kept his own plate, pot and utensils in his room so we wouldn't sully it. Our other friends had no idea we even had a roomie.

After Gord moved out, one of my other best friends moved in. A decade later, he was the best man at my wedding and I was the best man at his. So I guess that worked out.

First (and only) year of University, I lived with the 'rents. God, that was terrible! (sort of joking, sort of not).

First year of college, I ended up taking over my sisters half of a lease she had with one of her friends (and don't even go there, roomate was a fat, ugly hairy blimp). It wasn't too bad, we basically kept to our rooms, the apartment had seperate washrooms for each of us, etc. The only thing I didn't like was how cramped it was living out of a room. Of course, I was back down in my hometown every other weekend or racing, so we basically didn't see each other.

After that though, I'd had enough. This year of college, I rented a basement suite in a brand new apartment that went up near my school. Currently I'm surrounded by 15 empy water bottles, some mouldy plates of food, and half a dozen fast food bags. Never could have done that with a roomate (its finals, my priorities have been elsewhere besides having a clean house), and I probably would have went NUTS if I had one.

My real life telenovela... I lived with female twins. I think the good one and I really could have had something special. The bad one wanted me to rescue the good one from her turd boyfriend. I just respected her too much to start something knowing I'd have to lie about what happened with the bad one, just that once. That & her mustache sort of creeped me out. My character was boring, so I got written out of the script.

I too had the "Jack Tripper" role my senior year of college - 3 bedroom apt with 2 women as roomies. Got along great with one, not so much with the crazy beotch spoiled brat other one. All in all it was interesting but not that unique for me, as dad left when I was small and i grew up with my mom and my twin sister.
