So I have an HTC droid, Ithink its an ADR6200 or something like that. Your typical verizon basic droid.

Any way, I got it second hand from a friend and now I'm starting to do more stuff with it. Some games play slow randomly, and Id like to be able to use it to give my laptop a internet connection, for the next month or so, then i'll get internet at home.

So basically I have a free smart phone, and want to live up to my motto- stock sucks.

Ive read some basics on it, and now ill go research it some more, but it looks pretty fool proof if i dont go off the deep end.

Any way, what say you GRM

Root it! At the very least to get rid of the Verizon bloatware on it.

I rooted my EVO within the first week I had it and never looked back. New phones and rooting methods are pretty brick-proof. Certainly easier than flashing an old Motorola RAZR.

With an HTC Phone, I think your best bet to root will be with unrEVOked. I rooted my Evo within 5 hours of ownership. I did it specifically to run wireless tether so I didn't have to pay a hotspot fee. Now when I don't have wifi, but I have cell signal, I have internet on my laptop.

I recently rooted my Droid after owning it over a year. Shoulda done it when I bought it. Being able to turn it into a hotspot without giving Verizon an extra penny is great. I'm still running the factory ROM.
