In regards to a subleasing ad a friend of mine put out, he got this email. Do you think its a scam?

Hi, I understand that you posted an ad on craigslist.com that you have a room available for rent and i am interested in knowing the availability of the place and i will also want to know more about the neighbourhood ,the place and utilities included...??As i'll love to have aplace as soon as possible

About me,I am a pediatric nurse and a single lady of 27,i don't have a pet.....I'll let you know more about me if i can know the availability of the room. i live with my uncle in London UK and will relocate to the united states soon. I have seen rooms that are okay but the owners are not easy to get along with. i will want to know more about you too, i will prefer a long term lease...i plan to arrive by ending of Nov, all that i'll want to know is the availability and total move in cost before moving in.

Please contact me at my personal email address which is [email address] and i will be willing to let you know more about me.

    Kind Regards, Christina

For one thing, no proper Brit starts sentences with lower case letters. That is reserved for dichheads and folks not familiar with the English language. This eMail is more likely from a lesbian militant based out of Hootersville, WV., pretending to be an Iraqui woman, posing as a tasty bird from the UK.

These things just get weirder and weirder!

If this was a job applicant I would rule them out right away for grammar issues. In your case this may be even more important, it is not someone your friend will work with, it is someone he will LIVE with.
Your friend is in the driver's seat. Choose wisely.

    If you have to ask...

The grammer and sentence structure matches perfectly all the replies to car auctions, craigslists, etc. from the Nigerians.

Your friend should play with it. "Various sex acts will be required on a nightly basis as part of the roommate experience. Please send me pictures of yourself naked, as that's how I'll be seeing you for most of our interactions."

+1. I agree that it smacks of the crappy scam e-mails I get everytime I list a car on CL but what are they scamming for?

Probably enough to post an ad themselves, take the deposit check by mail as they're currently "out of town" and then the person who actually owns the place has to deal with an angry non-tenant.

No, if you respond the next email will be along the lines of "I want your place but already sent someone a check for their place so they will send you a check for more than you need. I need the extra for my plane ticket so cash the check and send me the extra......"

    Just like the car scams
