It appears that quite a few of the CL scammers are getting nailed by the FBI and other agencies. Based in Romania and Moldova. Nice news article here- http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/crime/fl-romanian-internet-fraud-20110321,0,68285...

Interesting. I always kind of wondered how the scam worked.

Ya know, Western Union seems to be at the middle of 90+% of these scams. WU is profiting from this theft. If ever there was a need for some oversight/regulation, it seems to me that this fraud that WU allows to happen through its business should be shut down. Perhaps if WU required a thumb print and a photo, plus photo ID of anyone receiving any money anywhere WU does business, or from any moneys that originate or end in the US.

For once, I totally agree with Hess. WU right now is almost anonymous, adding some real ID requirements would help a lot. But then there are other similar methods, so they will just use them. But, at least now some progress is being made.

Geez Doc, please don't tell me you're being seduced by the darkside. There will always be scumbag operations, it appears that those in charge at W.U. fit that bill. The best thing to do is refuse to do business with them and pass the word around. They will change or fold.

As long as there are idiots there will be people separating them from their money with or without WU there to help.

So maybe the victims should be arrested for "Suspicion of Ignorance"
(There may be a few that deserve the electric-chair for that offense...) -

Western Union also lets people send money from the US to Mexico for less than they charge to send to somewhere else in the US.. i wonder what market they are catering to with that policy?

They didn't catch the ones populating my local craigslist with nonsense. Activity seems to be at an all time high!
Is there any way to spam the hell out of those guys email addresses to frustrate them to death?
