The bench vise and vertical jack were awesome, I had to take a break to tell you all about it before diving in for a binge watch of the rest of them!

I've been watching his videos as well.  There are a lot of tool "restoration" videos out there but most of them consist of some guy using a wire brush to knock off a little rust followed by a coat of black spray paint.  He really does a restoration.  That tire gauge and the die grinder are pieces of art.

No E36 M3ty music, no annoying babbling, quality workmanship. That was almost therapeutic to watch.

It's just mesmerizing. I watched the tire gauge, and now I have to go through all of them.

This is not helping my desire to own a mill and a lathe. Because that's obviously the only thing preventing me from doing work of this quality.

Right?!? I love how he's like "I'll just make new screws" or just machines some random complicated part.

The bench vise was recommended at me. I closed the tab when he used WD40 in an attempt to break the jaw free.  At that point, I pretty mucn lost all expectations of skill.

Maybe the guy can hand whittle perfect parts from solid blocks of iron, but come on.  WD40 is not a lubricant or a penetrant.

That's true, but you're only penalizing yourself. Just look away, then enjoy the rest.

Perhaps you're right, but people using WD40 as a lube or penetrating oil is as off-putting as people who smack their lips as a form of verbal punctuation.  I just tune right out.

Well, he managed to get it free and continued on to finish the restoration so something happened there.

Ironically(*), I have found that water is a really good solvent for freeing up things seized by rust.  Water is the ultimate solvent, and it will get into the rust and turn it into a fine abrasive paste.

When I picked up the RX-3, all four brakes were rusted solid from nearly 40 years of sitting and it would not roll.  Some water and a little BFH time to shock the water into place, and it rolled freely.  For example.

(*) - The "WD" in WD40 stands for Water Displacer.  The product is a waterproofing spray.  Yet water is as good or better for freeing up rusty things.

Especially when it's Swiss WD40 .

The guy is Swiss, not German.

Oh yeah. Tool and fabrication porn. Two great tastes that taste great together.

I loved the disassembly of the tire gauge. Remove part >EXTREME CLOSEUP>repeat until completely disassembled. His skills are amazing. I was not expecting that level of finish at the outset.

From the vice video, first comment from the guy: “WD40 is no penetrating oil, I know now thanks”

I think an electrolysis bath would have been a great place to start on the vice. Regardless, it turned out beautifully.

Vise = shop tool.

Vice = Smokes, weed, scotch, hookers, blow, etc.

If we can be that picky about WD40 then we can be that picky about everything.

I’d never heard of using olive oil to finish parts like that.  That’s a neat idea.

Did you really stop looking when you saw him using WD40?  You really missed a lot.

That thing was stunning when he finished, and his attention to detail is incredible.

You’re missing a great show.

I know, right?  After buffing, he had those metal parts gleaming as if they'd been chrome-plated.
