Until the last year or two I had access to the shop I used to run that manufactures signs and trade show exhibits. I worked out well for me since I knew all the machinery well and the other guys all knew me. Unfortuanetely they have gone out of business and the tooling has gone to creditors and at auction for way more than I have to spend.
The main tool i used was a New Hermes IS400 which is used to make nameplates and small engraved signs. It can be used for all sorts of things though and we made brackets and all sorts of automotive parephanelia with it.
So...cut to today. I'm working on building a set of wheels for my MZ5 and found that the center caps are all cracked after sitting in a box for the last couple years. Volks has decided to not provide parts for old wheels so I need to make new centercaps. No problem getting and cutting the lexan or adding vinyl to the rear of the disc before painting but I would like to engrave the VR into them like the originals to give it some depth. I've been searching MAKE for an overhead engraver setup that I can make but have come up empty handed. Any ideas?
