Well...you did leave out the fact (in the original post) that he had a CL ad that you responded to that didn't say anything about it. I was in a similar situation recently (see the "selling stuff can stink" thread) as a seller and I can see where this misunderstanding took place.

If I'm the seller, I think, "Well, I'm not having any luck selling it at this price...I'll yank the desirable part that only takes 10 minutes and sell it for a good price and then sell the car for a little less." It's a pretty reasonable strategy.

yes...it's a misunderstanding...but knowing now about the CL ad, I think it was just that...and I think that you're understanding that JohnBrown and handling it well by not getting too worked up...all classy like.

The other issue was the CL add was taking into effect that he thought the starter was bad, which was just a bad ground wire.

He wanted $850.00 for it, reduced it to $750.00 with the starter issue then I offered him $700.00, knowing my labor and the cost of a used starter AND knowing what I thought was in it.

Do I feel cheated? no. Wronged? yes. Did it ruin my weekend? no.

John, you did handle it well. ;)

Yea I agree. I do have a funny feeling from his reaction that even if someone had purchased his car from the add on that board it still wouldnt have had the chip in it though. I think the replies to the thread are good enough to make it difficult for him to sell anything else on there, without getting into an arguement over it.

Go wash your mouth out with soap, young man. Just how many patios are there at the palatial Suddard Estate?
