Charleston SC, I turned the A/C on yesterday because it was 84 in the house when I got home. It's 65 outside now. Unfortunately, it will be HOT as Hell by June.

For those not versed in Celcius, the simple math conversion is to double the C and add 30 to get to F

    -29c times 2 would be -58
From -58 add 30 to get to about -28F (that is f'ing cold)

    Another example:
    20c doubled would be 40 + 30 is about 70F

Yes, this morning at 6:30am sure was fun in deadmonton. I let the car warm up for 4 minutes and it still sounded like it was going to chuck something!

It was mid 30s in Minneapolis today and raining, but the front has moved in from Canada...the rain has turned to snow and the temperature will drop down close to zero tonight. I imagine my garage door will be frozen shut in the morning.

    BTW. -29C = -20F.

Probably, though you can't tell it by all the people out and about. The shopping center parking lots have been staying full.

Some of the automotive companies like Bosch have let some people go.

I have noticed some of my customers are more reluctant to spend any more than the bare minimum to get their automatic doors repaired. Thank heavens for the medical industry. They are probably 50% of my business.

Housing construction is dead unless you are in the "custom" home business. The A/C company next door to me is scrambling to keep their guys busy. They don't want to lay anyone off. Commercial construction is still moving, but start ups are down and some have been delayed.

I guess we are holding our breaths like the rest of the country.

Dude. If the car started up drive it south. Eventually it will start to feel a lot warmer. It was 80 today and it will be 80 again tomorrow. Besides, it's a lot nicer to be unemployed and homeless when it's 80* than when its even one degree below.

There are no winter rallies where it is 80*F. Or poutine.

I will always have a job, on/off government employee :D

When you can't have winter rallies you can have summer rallies Besides, if you want french fries cheese and gravy we have those down here too. you just have to combine them yourself.

From breaking Charpy specimens for metallographic analysis, I can tell you that -40'c and -40'f are exactly the same temperature.

It's an industry standard to break them at that temp just for that reason.

    ...and yeah, move south.

Yep, pretty much the same scene here in Evansville. Rode the motorcycle to work yesterday and bundled up in the car this morning.

it is note worthy because it was that cold, it does not get that cold all the time, although in the winter it does always have the potential to get that cold. we were breaking records for cold the last two nights. it was -38 last night. it does seem a bit sadistic to stay in a place that gets this cold, but when you grow up in it, it does not seem that bad and i find that we enjoy the summers quite a bit. i think that it would be strange not to have the cold and snow in the winter months, it has become a part of who i am, but i might be willing to try living with out it some time. Vancouver looks pretty good some days.

We went from freezing about 2 weeks ago to 85 and hot today. I would have liked a few weeks of 70 degree days please.
