Another Colorado sax player here. I currently play in a 40-piece concert band and a 6-piece sax ensemble, all in concert settings - at 65 I'm not into the 9PM - 2 AM, pack up and maybe get to bed by 3:30 AM scene anymore. I'm a GRM-type, bang-for-the-buck kind of guy (read, fixed income and frugal), so my current main horn is an early LA Sax tenor (which is actually a nice copy of the Selmer Balanced Action, I'm told), with my others being a cheap soprano and a student model Leblanc alto.
My favorite style is blues, but I've played pretty much averything over the years. Our currend group plays everything from classical to funk. Look on youtube for Montrose Community Band - the sound quality is crappy, of course, but it gives the idea. One nice tune is a medley of Pickin' Up the Pieces and Play theat Funky Music, arranged by our leader (and soprano player).
I also occasionally jam with Celtic folks on tin whistles and bodhran, and play native American flutes.
