This is a Facebook page dedicated to "discussing" why Austin shouldn't have an F1 race. Its a thinly veiled discussion group that seems to just spout off with the normal "Race cars are bad, mkay?". Found it through another site and it made me rage a little. Felt like sharing. Although there are a few obviously fake comments.

Some one just get on there and tell them it is Nascar... they won't know the difference.

They quickly smash anyone who may join and say things they do not deem correct. Even if they are absolutely true. So get ready for that 96DX :)

I'm amazed at the (lack of) rationale they use to oppose the track.

I'm amazed that people would write most of what I saw.

I'm amazed that people could even think those thoughts.

But I'm not amazed that they would think them and write them and then jump in their Ford Excursion to go down to the local market to buy some organic milk.

We've had some of that concerning the new Atlanta Motorsports Park which is currently under construction. No matter what the rationale, or how logical the argument is for building the track, they always come back with 'I still hate the idea'.

Shhhh!! Don't tell them that the track will also probably be used for ALMS, Rolex, etc., etc. and possibly even by Nascar. That will add to the noise, safety issue (if we do this someone's going to die), and there's no way it will offset the abandoned track syndrome when F1 moves on.

I am very excited about the F1 track opening... I have family in TX (Houston and Dallas) so justifying a trip isn't difficult for me.

even if/when F1 does move on we're left with what looks like a great track...

for those that haven't seen it yet...

    Is this guy for real?

"those links are probally viruses so im not gonna open them, but you see when diesle cars like the american golf tdi use spark plugs to ignite fuel which is mixed with air from the vtec, because the vtec has to do less work then it does in a petrol car it can kick harder allowing clean air to come out of the car instead of exhaust which is very bad for both children and ducks"

Bring it back to Watkins Glen where it belongs. Even though I doubt NASCAR will spend the millions it would take to bring the track up to FIA specs.

Nope it's staying down south where it belongs. If not Austin then in the Fort Worth area where there's lots of wide open land, easy access and an atmosphere more like the Austin of old.

Don't tell them there's already a track in Austin, and one just outside of Austin either!

  • Sept. 1, 2010 6:09 p.m. triumph5 Reader

Don't these idiots realize the money it will bring into the area (temp jobs, too someone's got to collect the tickets, man the concession stands) poeple stay at hotels, send money on food, rental cars......

I agree, I'd like to see it back at the 'Glen, but that isn't going to happen. Better to have an F! race someplace in the country than none at all...

Ain't gonna happen. The FIA's required run-off area for T12 would require moving Hwy 53 over the back straight of Lanier Speedway.

    That's some classic spamming.

I haven't looked, but people are idiots. It would bring so much income to the area. What are they worried the races are gonna drown out 6th street? It just makes no sense to complain about something that won't directly affect them.

"Wah wah wah we're a bunch of hippies and college students with nothing else to complain about"

    sorry, it just annoys me.
