Sounds like some of the cars on the cash for clunkers crushed list were spared.

I'll bet this thread goes to 16+ pages of outrage as well!

Thanks for following, and posting, about this. It's rare that you get the outrage AND the often times less extreme ultimate conclusion.

    850i: CRUSHED

AngryCorvair's spirit: CRUSHED upon hearing the fate of the 850i.

a healthy dose of LSx would've been just the cure for whatever ailed the BMW.

Imagine a hand-build Isuzu Trooper with a 5.0 and you're in the right ballpark.

They missed one in the article, both a syclone and a typhoon got crushed. The typhoon was a pos, with terminal rust, the syclone was clean though and someone tried to buy it, but the dealer wouldnt let them (that is what i could find out from some research on a few forums).

I knew it was fishy from the first time I read it.

I was pretty sure every GNX out there was well-accounted for and well-cared-for. Those were collector cars from the day they rolled off the assembly line.

Exaggeration was inevitable. So many people looking for any reason to criticize the administration.

i think people were looking to criticize a ludicrous program that only delayed the inevitable. GM still cant pay back its loan...what the eff was the point?

i think the point was to keep gms doors open.

GM is kinda a big deal.

Domino effect on other related companies.

Permanent loss of national manufacturing capability.

at that time they wanted to do anything to slow the bleeding

    blah blah blah

I have a feeling a lot of the same people bashing the GM bailout on TV would be screaming about how "the current administration did nothing and let GM fail" if they had done nothing.

It was never just about GM or any other single company. It was about the economy as a whole and I believe it worked. Heck I don't think GM was even the biggest beneficiary, I think it was Toyota but I'm not sure.

    In reply to Adrian_Thompson:

So in reply to myself I was wrong. GM were the biggest beneficiary followed by Toyota

    General Motors 18.7%

    Toyota 17.9%

    Ford Motor 16.0%

    Honda 11.6%

    Chrysler 10.6%

    Nissan 7.0%

    Hyundai 6.6%

    Kia 3.8%

    Mazda 2.3%

    Subaru 2.2%

    Volkswagen 1.9%

    Suzuki 0.4%

    Mini 0.3%

    Mitsubishi 0.3%

    Smart 0.2%

    Volvo 0.1%

The point is that it was never intended to be just GM and that still holds
