80-year old lady drives through Auto Europe in MI. She says she doesn't know what caused the crash. Yeah, when is the last time some dear older person said "Well, see officer. I crashed through that crowd of people, the plate glass window and the first 16 rows of the movie theater because I don't seem to be aware of my surroundings. I haven't been aware of my surroundings since Kennedy was in office. He's cute."

And she'd been up for 3 hours already. My contribution:

Back in the '80s I was walking from KMart to my car in the parking lot. About halfway up the aisle from me some fossil was backing her Buick out of the parking space. Problem was there was an even older fossil walking directly behind her. Fossil #2 gets flattened and backed over. Bystanders yell and scream and wave for her to stop, so Fossil #1 puts it in D and pulls back into the parking space, promptly running over Fossil #2 for a second time. Saved us the effort of getting her out from under the Electra, I guess. She was conscious and talking when the ambulance took her away, at least.

My in-laws live about 40 miles from there. FIL texted me last night about this story but he didn't have the particulars, just that a Lotus had been damaged. I texted back "Must have been Auto Europe in Birmingham. Was it on Woodward near Lincoln?". He said the reporter didn't really go into much detail. I went on to describe the building, cross streets, and the other makes they carry all from memory.

I haven't lived in MI since 2006. My wife thinks I retain too much auto information.

There is a member of this forum, and one of my previous rallycross competitors that used to work at that dealer.

I used to visit it occasionally.

She was just adding lightness. When I was but a young lad I worked in a Kroger store. Bagging groceries on fine summer morning while asking if the customer preferred paper to plastic a 1980 Bonneville comes though the front window and into the register next to the one I was bagging groceries on, I was 16 and she had be somewhere right around 190 if she was a day. I had bagged her groceries about 10 minutes before hand. 3 banana's 200 cans of cat food. She backed out of the spot missed drive got neutral floored it and it wouldn't move she pushed down on the selector got Drive and drive she did right into the front of the Kroger damn near taking out me my cashier and the store manager. It was 7:30am.

So don't keep us in suspense. Was it paper, or plastic?

One time I saw an old bat in about a 75 Eldorado coupe manage to floor it in reverse out of a liquor store parking lot, across two lanes of traffic, get air across the island dividing the street, across another two lanes, and into a row of cars at a burger joint. Remember, all in reverse. That 500-inch V8 had at least one tire smoking the entire time, except when all four tires were in the air.

About 4 months ago I rebuilt the front of a Rite Aid store after a little old lady parked her car in isle 6.

The worst part of it was the 4yo she sent to the hospital when she hit the buggy he was sitting in.

I used to work at the intersection of two boulevards. They crossed at an angle.

The baggles would be heading, say north on Grand River and want to make a left on 8 mile. So, they'd make a left (west) on 8 mile but now they'd be facing west on the east-bound side or vice-versa from 8 mile onto grand river. This would happen once or twice a month and the baggles would get out of their car and stand in the intersection, looking around like Magellan just discovering a new world.

I used to work at a convenience store. An old fogey drove through the brick front of the building in a Crown Vic. His foot was still on the pedal when his car was completely stopped. The rear was smoking like crazy.

The worst part was, I was standing right where his car ended up, not one minute before.

it's not just old people that drive thru stores- a couple of years ago, a 34 year old co-worker of mine drove his Ford Explorer thru the front of a Casey's store after he got his moring coffee and donut.. he claimed that his big boot got tangled up and mashed the gas pedal to the floor instead of the brake. i guess the lady working behind the counter jumped about 10 feet horizontally away from the wall that was caving in towards her and the lottery machine flew about 15 feet..

and another.... but he crashed through the frickin' DMV:

    http://www.wtae.com/news/25381914/detail.html

COLLIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A Carnegie man who had just passed his driving test crashed into the PennDOT state driver license center on Washington Pike late Wednesday afternoon. The wreck happened while 34-year-old Robert Keller was still in the parking lot of the Chartiers Valley Shopping Center in Collier Township where the license center is located.

WTF is up w/ these 34 year olds?
