I always wanted to know what would happen if you stuck a bowling ball in a microwave.

The microwave at home is from 1990 and still going strong, won't be able to try out my idea any time soon. No-name brand too.

OK, so after the wisdom of the forum sank in, a trip to WallyWorld was called for. Bought a nice, big, powerful Panasonic unit. Two days later, SAME FREAKING SMELL is back. I wondered if it might be coming from the outlet, touched the plug, and succeeded in burning myself. Obviously, the problem is in the outlet, not the microwave unit. A trip to Home Depot tomorrow for replacement parts is called for. Have a few other wonky outlets, so I will be putting on my Bob the Builder hat to take care of it all. Fortunately, no flames involved.
