are you referring to Illinois's emission laws?
I think they are some of the most logical out there. Nothing under 96 is tested. Anything newer than 96 is OBDII and all they do is a once a year plug into the port before your plates are renewed.

Well, now that I think about it, I guess that you're right. My knowledge of it comes from a good friend who would test the cars, but he quit that job about five years ago. He said he couldn't believe what would pass and what wouldn't: a Honda Civic getting 38 MPG average (according to the owner) failed three times, and yet my brothers gas hog pickup that would put out blue smoke about half the time didn't fail once.

Maybe you can't, but I sure as heck have sold things for more than they cost me new.

Come with me some time to the auctions, and I'll show you people paying silly high prices on things over and over again.

There are silly buyers, there are silly sellers. There are just plain silly people. Not worth getting upset over them, or hating them. All that happens is you're enraged and full of hate, and they're still silly. You suffer and they aren't troubled at all, so you're the loser, not them.

Take advantage of the silliness when you can.

I'm not real up on what states require what, from the chatter back and forth I gather that in some states part of the emission inspection is visually confirming that the stock exhaust is in place and not leaking. So what these guys do is run an aftermarket header carb etc until smog time, then they plop a stock setup on it, go get a new sticker then go back to the aftermarket stuff.

Reminds me of a thread on the local forums with a C160 (rare Toyota 6-speed transaxle) for sale for $1000, an average price.

Some dude says

Also reminds me of the various people who have come to look at some lightly used tires I'm practically giving away for $200 (they're $500-600 new, other people are selling similar tires for around $400). Every single one tries to lowball me from my already low price. I'm convinced that selling things at really cheap prices attracts these people, it happens every time.
