I changed a starter on my car at my job's parking garage and bolted in a new muffler at my old apartment complex.
Do it on the weekend. Do it quickly and clean up after yourself. Most people probably won't say anything, and the workers will be home for the weekend. You'll also probably get one freebie, as they leave a notice that says "don't work on your cars in the lot" and leave it at that.
