My daughter is a Special Ed teacher in a private school and is trying to set up a Postcard exchange for her students hopefully in all 50 states and as many foreign countries as she can arrange.

It's not an ongoing pen pal type of thing, although anyone who wants to continue on can do so. Here is what she had to say about the program:

"Hi! I teach in Texas at a Private school for kids with Special Needs/Behavioral problems. I teach 5th-7th grade and I think this project would really compliment our Social Studies lessons this year. I welcome all grades, even Kindegarten or Life Skills classes. I would like to have all participants in by the end of September so that postcards can be sent out at the beginning of October. Looking for 50 states and any other countries that would like to participate!

Please PM me with Your Name Your grade Your School School's Address Your e-mail address

Looking forward to this, it should be so much fun. If you have any special requests you would like on your postcards( ie you want to know State birds, regional questions, favorite past times etc), let me know and I will add that by your name.

Everyone on the list will get everyone's e-mail address. I am keeping the post open until the end of September and beginning in October I will send out everyone's address. Each person on the list will have their class write a postcard to each school, so if a class has 25 students, each student will write 2 postcards with information the class decides they want to send the other classes and they mail it.If it is done correctly each class should get 50 postcards from all the other schools by November. If they choose to make PenPals out of it that is fine, but normally each class will decide what is interesting about their state and send it to us so when we get a better idea of things from that state other than what we see in Textbooks, say Mass. Might say they were the home to Paul Revere and are the only state in the US to make loose leaf tea in Silk bags just like they did back during the revolutionary days, and then they can include other facts.

SO in essence we all should get 50 postcards in return as well. You can send this to anyone who is a teacher in other states too, sometimes it is hard to get teachers in the states.

If you are interested PM me and I will send all your info to her.

Just sent this to my sister who is going to college to be a special education/elementary education teacher. She should be in the classroom working this semester. Pennsylvania may be on your list.

Thanx, that would be great! I figured this list went all over and there's be no telling where they might be able to make a connection.

It could be a fun way for the kids to learn some facts they might not read about in a book.
