Anybody here ever done the ESL teaching abroad as a way to earn some money while traveling? How did you coordinate that? What were your experiences?

I'm looking for ways to earn a few extra bucks while in Europe and thought that might be a pretty handy way of doing it.

I have read a blog about doing that before. Specifically in Japan.

    Fun read.

Sounds like fun, until you find out what Kancho is...

You can teach a broad English, but that doesn't mean she'll listen to you.

I don't know what the demand in Europe is for English speakers, but it is definitely in demand in Japan. Unfortunately, in the aftermath of the earthquake there, teaching/learning English may be low on the list of priorities.

This. English has been on the curriculum in most Western European countries for a long time so the demand for this isn't that great IMHO.

OTOH I know (vaguely) a couple of people who did that sort of work in Japan and China, where there is still a lot of demand for this sort of service.

Well, I'm already planning to be in Europe. I was just looking for a strait forward way to earn a few bucks while I'm already there. I will need it most when/if I spend some time in the Czech Republic. Probably greater demand there than in Germany.
