Lately I have been in the car buying mode. Let's say I'm still in the research phase of the project. I still haven't figured out how to pay for it. Or where to keep it.

Upstairs I have tons of car magazines, including my dad's collection of old Road & Tracks and Sports Car Graphics. They're all nicely arranged by title and date. So tonight I randomly grabbed an R&T from one of the holders, and on the cover was the exact car I'm considering--same body style, same generation. Weird.

A sign? You now know that if the car you're after pops up for sale anywhere nearby, in reasonable condition for reasonable money, you must buy it on impulse.

That's not weird, its an omen. Ignoring an omen is bad. Buy it.

I've been in the car buying mood lately too, but I had to recheck my accounts to make sure I could afford to change my oil today. That constitutes a problem. Maybe if the Miata wasn't overdue for new tires, a new soft top, and a header that isn't cracked, buying some junker to rallycross would be a little more realistic.

It's a game! We have to guess what it is.

I just Googled "vintage road and track" in the image search, and here's the first cover that came back:

So that must be it. A Fox-body Capri RS. The next cover in the search was a Ferrari 308 GTS. Is it odd that either one of those seems perfectly plausible?

I think this is what we're really talking about, based on some things David has thrown out there in the past.

Um, no. (Although I do remember my dad and I going to look at one that was for sale way back in the day.)

When I was a teenager, I was thinking about, well, what teenage boys think about.

I went to my father's Playboy collection, neatly arranged by title and date, and picked a magazine at random. Lo and Behold! The girl on the cover had all the features I wanted!

    I can't afford $86 for a 3ml bottle of eyedrops. I haven't gone blind, though.

You guys are still a little off. On a related note, yesterday I got to take a nice example out for a spin. I was in love by the time I got to second gear.

    Maybe this is a hint:

    From the main page:

"Tim and David will be visiting the Lane Motoring Museum this Friday before participating in the Vintage Motorsports Council meeting at Barber Motorsports Park."
