Sure the 924 is easy to pick on.
But I say without this:
We wouldn't gotten this:
I too would rather have a 914 than a 924. Not sure about 914 vs. 944. Both desirable, but different.

Having owned all three (914, 924, 944) I can say they all are awesome and they all suck all at the same time.
I am not sure if I can explain that.
there is something in my Psyche that makes me like 80's-90's German trash. I can't explain that either. I am currently driving an Audi....
Say what? The SA RX-7 did not crib anything off of the 924. The 24 debuted in (model year) 76 and the SA in 78, that's too little lead time to copy. There's many, many documented books about the RX-7's design process and how the SA was chosen over the other 2 designs. It's also like 1/2 the size of the 24.
And again, the 924 Turbo and the 944 are hot, but the plain 924 is ugly, even in person.
In reply to Javelin:
The 2nd generation RX-7 came out in 1986 and the whole point of it was to copy the 1982 Porsche 944. Can we at least agree upon that?
In reply to Otto Maddox:
Oh yeah, FC to 944 for sure, I will absolutely agree on that one. But there is no way the SA had any influence at all by the 924. The designer was actually influenced by the Ferrari Daytona according to my Mazda book (that also says 944 in the FC chapter).
@#$%@#$%
i had just gotten over lusting for a 914. again.
thanks a lot.
Hey, it's the internet. I thought we were supposed to make unfounded allegations and portray our ignorant opinions as fact?
I confess I know nothing of the backstory of the RX-7 or the 924 for that matter. They just seem a bit similar to me and I knew the 924 came out a couple years prior to the RX-7. To me the styling is close, but one gets a bad rap and the other is loved. I think the 924 gets a bad rap because the 944 looks so much better.
My opinion is the that FC RX7 is a much better looking 924. Something about the 924 looks awkward where the RX7 seems to have taken the idea to completion. I think the hatch to cabin area is where most of the cleanup was needed.
