But that's where hockey lives! In the cold, where the ground is frozen for half the year. Population densities are a bit lower for some reason. I firmly believe that a city should not be allowed to have an NHL team unless it's possible for the local kids to play outside on natural ice. I thought you were cool until you started trying to move my closest NHL team (the Stars) back to Minnesota.
At least they're 200 miles north of me, that should count for something.
Besides, people who live in the heat deserve hockey, too.

After all these years, people in Minnesota are still sore about the North Stars moving.
I'm watching the Minnesota state high school hockey championships on TV right now, it's some of the best hockey you'll see anywhere.

Back when Bud Adams was threatening to move the Oilers (Houston football, not Edmonton Hockey), I saw a bumper sticker that said "Go Oilers, go!!! And take the Astros with you."
I guess Minnesotans must care more for their sports teams than Houstonians.

I heard that that was a problem with the NHL in Minnesota... Too many people were too involved with the High School hockey and didn't have time for the NHL. Don't know if there was any truth to it though.

I wish that had happened.
Bettman's mandate to popularize hockey in the US at all costs is getting a little tired.
I'll bet that in southern Ontario, alone, there are more serious hockey fans than in most of the US NHL cities combined.
Put the teams where people actually want to watch hockey.

I can tell you that nobody in Denver understands when I cheer for the Nordiques.
Agreed, the Jets should be allowed to move to Waterloo. That's where the fans are. Sure, it's close to Toronto and the Leafs are afraid it'll take away fans. But Ottawa and Montreal are only a couple of hours apart, and they both survive! Instead, I suspect we might see a healthy rivalry between the Waterloo Blackberries and the Leafs, and rivalries lead to ticket sales.

Take a look at Edmonton and Calgary. Or Islanders and Rangers (and Devils and Flyers) (and Bruins). Too close? Psh.

Islanders, Rangers, Devils, Flyers, Penguins. All working in an area that probably doesn't have a quarter of the hockey fans that southern Ontario has.
It's frustrating.
