The remake is one of my wife's favorite movies. She thinks the original is, "Weird and annoying." And yet... I still love her.
My parents just adopted a skittish female border collie, going by the name Charlotte at the rescue. They re-named her Charlie, since Charlotte is "a bloody pig's name, not a proper dog name." Of course I had to send them the "hello Charlie" scene...

They are serious, and you can't call them both Shirley... oops, wrong movie.
The second one has Charlize Theron in it, so it becomes the real one. The first one becomes the prototype.

The remake isn't bad, they're just different movies. It's got a good cast, the action and driving are well done. But the original has a certain...style.
