Other people I know have used it to reconnect with old friends and/or get laid.

I was on for a bit... found it to be generally useless unless you are looking to hook up with old girlfriends, FB friends' wives or random lonely people trolling other people's friend lists. Since my own wife generally frowns on me doing that sort of thing... I'm off.

Almost everyone I actually call "Friend" I communicate with by email/phone or I visit them so I really do not miss instant access to other people, mostly acquaintances, trivial crap. Knowing Bob from the beer store "Just had a good E36 M3" isn't really that important to me.

I do have a rockin' smart-phone though.

Tagging people without their permission is technically against FB's rules.

Those of you who haven't tried it don't understand. Those that use it understand it's value.

I fought it for a long time, but am glad I went there. It's great to annoy friends by tagging them at places they've never been.

Fail to see the value. Don't have an I phone, don't want one. Thinking of getting rid of my cell phone. Guess I'm Just getting old.

WOW! I don't think I could operate without my smartphone. Actually, I know I could, but it would certainly make things a lot more difficult.

See--that's not motivating me to join at all.

If I ever get around to starting a business, I'll go on. Otherwise, I just don't care.

I have FB,

The other, I tried it for a while. Still signed up and check in once in a while. Other than that it's a waste of time. If I want to talk to someone I call them.

It's OK. I had a rule where I only used it to keep up with family and old friends (we're all spread out). I didn't add anyone from work until I didn't work there anymore. My basic rule is never "friend" anyone you see every day.

Oh, and don't play the games.

I joined FB on a whim and have to say I really enjoy it. Have reconnected with a lot of people I lost contact with. The guys I race with are all connected and we use it as an effective tool to lay down pre-race smack. Now that I've blocked the 200 or so game apps there's very little clutter.

Being a teenager operating in my natural habitat (high school until June, then college since yesterday) I do have one, and primarily use it for keeping in touch with folks. Oh, and regarding the games... Stole this from my stepdad who in turn stole it from someone else's post:

I resisted it for a long time, but signed up shortly before I moved over here. Makes it easy to keep up with friends in Europe.

That said, I do prefer Google+, but a lot of the non-geeky types I know aren't on there yet.

I'm also trying to be reasonably careful what I post on Facebook, ie no drunken photos of naked orgies etc , so it's mostly car/bike/cat photos with some photos of the recent wildfire thrown in.

I'm a recent FB convert. It's handy for catching up with friends living interstate, and actually very handy for sharing info/photos about assignments. Occasionally some funny exchanges develop.

Mostly, though, it's a lot of this, (actual content from my current News Feed), from people with whom I have no desire to reconnect with:

"this coffee is average"

"Amber is pretty amazing"

"I'm going to go ahead and take the risk of her reading this because you might be her fb friend and say thanks but not thanks"

I like it to keep it touch with people. I check it maybe once or twice a day for like 5-10 minutes. I have it all locked up so you have to be my friend to see my profile. And my profile picture isn't me often it is a car or something.

Yea, I have been on the Facepages thing since before everyone could get on it, like when it was only colleges. Back then, it was a good way to waste time when you should be studying, and now it's a good way to waste time when you should be cleaning your apartment or being productive, and for letting me know how much of a failure I am because all the people I graduated with have nice houses and cars and E36 M3 now. Oh, and reminding me of that really cute girl I knew in high school and how now she's single and sometime in the past 10 years went from 'cute' to 'holy hell you are unspeakably gorgeous.'

Yea, there's really no upside. Don't do it.

I too have resisted the siren call of FB... sadly though, it is how all my friends communicate anymore. Nobody calls or emails.. it is all on FB.. so I might get dragged, kicking and screaming, into it
