Some how, I don't think the Top Gear guys will let this drop as easily...

Outside of another year or two of lame jokes (Morris Marina, Dacia Sandero, et al) I don't see what this will accomplish. Even given the low British libel standards, all Tesla has to do is prove the vehicle works like they say it does.

For all of you claiming Tesla is changing their tune, the issue isn't the original episode, it's that the BBC is continuing to air that episode and now show it on BBC America. The problem is the perpetuation of the misinformation, not the original misinformation itself.

Really, Tesla? You did realize that Top Gear is an entertainment show, right? Everybody who watches it does, fricken stupid!

I think some of you guys don't realize how stories like this are told and retold decades later.

That thing about Chevy selling the Nova in Mexico when the name means "No go" in spanish? Not true. I heard it years ago and believed it. I was wrong. My bet is Tesla is trying to avoid the same fate. "Remember that time on Top Gear when the Tesla broke? What crap those cars were...."

While the show is funny some do take it as gospel. Who argues with Stig track times?

BTW, it isn't that the batteries die when pushed on the track, the motor overheats before they are discharged. Top Gear merely extrapolated how long the batteries would last if driven hard on the track, if the motor could be kept cool enough to make that happen.

The fact is the motor and battery packs overheat and the computer system reduces the speed and power of the vehicle until things cool down. Basically you get 2-3 laps, tops before things overheat. The battery pack and the motor are air-cooled and rated for only driving on the street.

Tesla's new car will have a water cooled system and in fact would be better suited for track use.

Bottom line, just because it looks like a SportsCar, doesn't mean it can be used like one.

Tesla really needs to suck it up and realize that they have to prove outside of the court that what Top Gear showed was false. Winning a court case won't change the minds of the common person that is asking the question.

If you're dissuaded from buying a car by a Top Gear piece, you're an idiot regardless. ITS-A-TV-SHOW!

And even good journalism just barely represents the real world.
