    Here is the problem. I'm moving from Ohio to Denver. I need to rent a Uhaul or something of that nature and tow a 2004 4x4 Chevy tracker. Any chance of just putting it in neutral and dolly it? or do I need to go the flat bed tailor.
    I would rather just get a tow hitch for the thing and pull a uhaul tailor w/it ,but girl friend is convinced that this can not be done. She will not listen to reason. So my question is this flat bed behind the uhaul or tow dolly behind the uhaul what do you guys think?

    Whatever the answer this is going to end badly. I already know it.

    if your going to use a tow dolly you will need to remove the driveshaft.

    I'm not sure about a tracker, but in my jeep I can put the tranfercase in neutral, no driveshaft worries. Transfer case in neutral, happy towing.

    Hope I can just put the case in neutral. this is going to be a pain in the butt

    My Liberty can be flat towed with the transfer in neutral. It can not be towed on a dolly unless the rear driveshaft is disconnected. From personal experience.

    We flat tow our Geo Tracker by putting the transfer case in neutral. It's gone cross country like this.

    Stop towing vehicle every 200 miles. With the transfer case lever in Neutral, start engine, shift into DRIVE and rev engine for about one minute to circulate oil in the transfer case. Shift into PARK before next towing.

    Towing from Ohio to Denver is mostly flat land, should not be much of an adventure, I've done it with a camper trailer on the back of a van. Make absolutly sure that the tires on the rental trailer are in perfect condition. A lot of rental stuff is poorly maintained. See if you can talk them into including a spare for your trip. I had a flat in Kansas and that adventure took 8 hours to fix. Good luck and congratulations on leaving Ohio.
