Alright. What was the last World Rally Championship overall event win by a rear-wheel-drive solid-axle car?

AFAIK, it wasn't a Ford (pretty amazing considering how many events the Escort RS won) and is much closer in date to the second guess than the first.

Is a Volvo 240 involved?
-
July 10, 2008 3:38 p.m. ae86andkp61 New Reader
Nope, good guess, but no Volvo.
Just remember, we are talking about World Championship wins, and there weren't THAT many events each year.
A couple more hints....AWD was untouchable by the 90's on all events...IRS tends to be more fragile, and tends to shine on sprints and events with more tarmac (i.e. continental Europe) and solid axles tend to shine on the long, hard, remote, dirt and gravel events.

Kenya, 1984? The Celica Turbo. I've forgotten who its drivers were.

Very close....right car, right continent, wrong date and event.

Dangit, well if it wasn't the Safari it has to be the Ivory Coast. And if it wasn't '84 it's got to be around then. 1985?

Close enough. It was Waldegaard in 1986, Ivory Coast, Toyota Celica Turbo. Jay, the floor is now yours.

Name three different models that were originally equipped with this type of wheel:
Hint: two of the answers are obvious. The third is not.

I know, I know...but I don't have another question lined up. I might sit on the answer for a while and see if someone else gets it first.

Well... the wheel says "TOYOTA" on the bottom left...
AE86 Corolla, Starion, and Celica? (Random guess, I hope I'm wrong because I don't have a question yet.)

Oooooh....I just can't keep it in!
RA6x Celica GT-S
MA6x Supra P-Type
YH51/YH61 Toyota van (the cab-over middie made before the Previa)

My neighbor has two of those vans, I didn't know the Celi/Sura models.

Are you sure they came on the Toaster Van? Heh, that wasn't the answer I was fishing for at all.
A quick googling yields no useful information.

No, I am not sure. I know for a fact that the toaster vans came from Toyota with both of the optional AE86 alloys, the 13" as fitted to some SR5 (and also MA47 Supras) and the 14" "pyramids" as fitted to most '85 GT-S models. I think I've even seen the vans with the "snowflake" 14" meshies which came on later AE86 GT-S's and Cressidas.

Okay, well I'll give another hint then. The third, obscure, anser is not a Toyota. It isn't even Japanese.
(You got the first two right though! Keep going...)

Oh crap....it has to be a Lotus Excel then...or was it the Eclat? I think it must be the Excel.

I'm looking for manufacturer here, and bonus points for a rough timeframe.

Well, since it's coming from you I'm guessing Toyota...and as a shot in the dark I'll guess in the early 60's.

Bingo Toyota "hemi!" Nashco's got it! It was in production for Japanese market big executive cars for decades...I think they used it through the 90's.
Toyota also made a 5-liter V-12 for Japan, which replaced this 3V/4V/5V family of V-8's.

But when did they start making it? Did bingo mean the early 60's?
I'm a goof when it comes to trivia, so I'll give you an easy one. I'm all amped up about an event I'll be attending soon. This event is the second oldest motorsports race in the US (the oldest being the Indy 500). What is the event, and for a bonus what was the first year it was run?

I think the Toyota V-8 started production in either '63 or '64.
