ROFL! Niki and Lewis try to sell a Mercedes. They start talking about KERS, but end up talking about driving, and what you do when the car's just not quite right. McLaren 09 equals March 71? You decide...

The Lauda-Hunt years have intrigued me for a while. I read both "Mein Story", and Hunt's biography by Gerald Donaldson. It is interesting to see it from both sides.

I haven't read the Hunt biography. I guess I'll put it on my list.

    "James Hunt bites girls' legs!"

    Sorry, couldn't resist!

Even as a teenager (and Lauda fan), I was never a Hunt hater..da rulez are da rulez. I understand Lauda pulling out in Japan, and found it ironic when he won the 84 Championship because the race in Monaco was halted (and everyone was awarded half points). If the same (1984) decisions had applied to the 76 Japanese GP, Lauda would have been Champion.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, the 70s is my favorite era for F1.

Ickx lost some of my respect for his decision to end the race early; as Clerk of the Course, he never asked for permission (as required) before making the call. He was a contracted Porsche endurance driver and flew the checkers when a Porsche-engined car was leading the race, but was rapidly losing ground to a couple of up-starts named Senna and Bellof. And, the rainfall had lessed a lot from what fell during the previous laps. Conflict of interest, anyone?

At least, Ickx was suspended from his position for his transgression.

    Back on topic:

What icon's image graced the bodywork of James Hunt's first F1 car?

It's about time this thread got revived.

What was the company Recaro known as before it was called Recaro, and in what capacity were they related to Porsche Automobiles?

I cheated and googled it. That is a pretty interesting piece of trivia that I didn't know!

I cheated and googled it as well. Cool question, but not one that I would ever know the answer to.

Recaro was previously known as 356 body manufacturer (among other things), REuter CAROsserien.

Porsche bought the body line, and Recaro retained the seats and accessories business.

You are correct sir. (Though some believe Porsche scrapped number 1 while restoring, moving its vin tag to another 1964 chassis. Also, the last is "the last for export to the US market".)

Here is a softball. Only one man has ever won the Indianapolis 500, the 24 hours of Le Mans, and the Monaco Grand Prix.

Nope. His highest finish at Monaco was a fifth.

He did however, win a f1 title, the indy, as well as the five hunderd in Daytona. Certainly an accomplished career.
