Possibly not quite what you had in mind, though...

The the most awesomely bizarre novelty hybrid vehicle ever?

I wonder which engine would 'win' in an opposing direction burnout attempt, one in 1st and the other in reverse.

Or was it built as some kind of elaborate impractical joke?

It certainly is full priced. In a opposing direction tug-o-burnout, I'd put my money on the violent separation of the two shells.

It's cool, but I can't imagine it being very practical or useful.

I work in a VW/Audi/Subaru garage... this would be the ultimate demo car.

Looks like it might be best to have two people in order to change gears on both engines at the same time?

It looks to me like the beetle half is heading a bit uphill.

I think they missed a great painting opportunity though. Paint each half a different color and put some sort of crunching / smashing design at the break.

It looks like some wierd 3rd-world type of funeral car.

I imagine both engines are not operated simultaneously. I know, for me, there have been certain occasions when an auxiliary drive train would have come in handy.
