Damn....that curve threw a beating to the beetles and the 911's.

Helmet? We don't need no stinkin' helmets!

You can bet a few of those guys has some 'splaining to do when they got home to the wife.

Seen it. Amazing what you're allowed to haul around in your car at track days.

helmet, bah, who would wear a helmet? Set belts, think again. There was one guy climbing out the windshield of this car at the same time the spectators were rolling it over. Wow, scary stuff.

Helmets? Most of them aren't even wearing SEAT BELTS!

My favorite is still the guy who gets spit out the door ahead of his beetle.

Rolling a Beetle cabrio: A great way to decapitate you and three of your best friends!

I had seen it but not for a while. I will snug up my seat belt every time I drive. I will also stow all luggage in the trunk and make sure it is securely shut.

At 5:11 What car is that?

I noticed a lot of Opels and Beetles flipping over, but not the porsches.

Adenauer Forst is the hardest part of the track. I think I went off there about one in every four laps. The first curve tricks you into taking the second wrong. I never flipped anything though.

I loved watching that video. Seeing guys get spit out in nothing but bell bottoms and t-shirts.

I've seen this before, but it amazes me how those cars just seem to disintegrate when they roll over. Amazing what modern crash standards have done.

That's not disintegration. That's trash flowing out the windows when they roll.

    In reply to Xceler8x:

The 'ring is still like that. I couldn't give you a ratio of helmeted to non-helmeted drivers, but it is not unusual to see people driving hard in fast cars without helmets. The motorcyclists are all pretty geared up, but that might be German law.

The worst part of driving there is actually sharing the track w/ motorcycles. I have nothing against motorcycles, but they are SO fast on the straights and SO slow in the corners that you get a real mismatch with both cars and bikes out there. I also suspect that many of the long track closings are due to motorcycle crashes, there isn't much runoff area on the north loop...

I'll bet the motorcycle gear is there for survival as much as anything else. It would be suicide to tackle the 'Ring on a motorcycle in jeans and an armored jacket.

It would also take real commitment to lean over a motorcycle to maintain any speed in those turns. Maybe commitment is the wrong word. I'm thinking more suicidal tendencies.

But hey, not many places you can run a motorcycle against a car.

If I remember correctly all of the motorcycle gear is German law.
