Ok, not really but I have been trying to get this one drawn up since we got the Wartburg and finally found the right guy for the job. Just sent him pics of the wartburg, our "winnie the E36 M3 " mascot and the request for something in the rat fink style...otherwise go nuts.

Ok, round one "pooh" looked a little too angry for my wife so I told him to envision him as a benevolent but deranged pot smoking rastafarian pooh....nailed it :)

The artists name is Mike Learn and as soon as I saw his work I knew he'd get what I was looking for.

This one was done by a very talented friend of my wifes (she's been one of the featured muralists on Extreme Home makeover. Great picture, but sadly she did not understand what I meant by Rat Fink style. Still thought I'd share.

I like the second one a lot, it looks like an image out of the Haynes manual, with a twist.

    Wait, Wartburgs AND pot now?

...only doubly so. (Sorry, had to post it again )

The artwork looks awesome. I'd love to have that hanging in my garage...

Well I guess Travelodge is less likely to sue us than Disney so we'll go with it :)

The first one is also vectored and could easily be made into vinyl stickers or tee shirts cool

    Precisely the plan. :)

I wont be doing the die cut vinyl stickers like I usually do, weeding that would be hell (I may do one or 2 for myself but not mass produced) but we are getting a run of printed stickers done as we speak and looking for deals on the T shirts. I have a small silk screen to do one offs but we want to get a quantity for trading/selling at Lemons so we'll give it to the pros.

I've poked around for awhile to find someone who could do this the way I wanted. When I saw Mike's rendering of his own project I knew he could do it.

Damn. Very Trosley-esque, right down to the background fade (and I mean that as the most sincere complement.) I'd sit for hours when I was a kid and try to copy "Krass and Bernie" cartoons. It's weird that dude doesn't have more stuff like that on his website. All I could find was pretty traditional custom bike airbrush stuff.

The custom brush stuff pays the bills. He turned this project around for me in 2 days and said it was the most fun he's had in awhile. He gets tired of the other stuff but its what he's known for but he loves doing this kind of work and had alot of fun with it.

I actually sent him pics of the Cup 1 wheels but his artistic interpretation looks like like the phone dials....I like it.

I used to do the same thing. I had tons of CARtoons magazines when I was a kid, up until they stopped printing it.

I ran across 5 or 6 of 'em a few months ago in a box in the basement. 2 hours later my wife found me sitting on the floor in my boxers reading comic books.

JThw8: Not to be rude, but would you mind if I ask, was the price "reasonable?" (I know, it's subjective.)

It is subjective you are correct. After dealing for 6 months with the "cheap" options and not getting what I was looking for I found the price to be worth it for getting exactly what I want. And judging by the intial interest on the Lemons boards for shirts and stickers I should recoup the cost. But it was not exactly grassroots or cheap. I'll shoot you a PM with the details.

Sorry to post this up here but so many folks have emailed me to ask if we were going to sell shirts or stickers this was just the easiest way to do it.

Ordering info for shirts and stickers can be found at

    http://wartburg.misfittoysracing.com/swag.html

We are doing a pre order through the 20th

We are ordering in very limited numbers because....well all our money is tied up in crap can racing. So getting in on the pre-order is the only way I can assure you of a particular size or even availability of any shirts.

Mods, if this violates any rules please delete it. The funds will go toward the cost of getting the Wartburg to GRM if that helps any :)
