    Since the GRM boards are the best place to ask about anything in the universe....

    My stupid washer machine broke today. It's an older GE front loader High Efficiency washer, and there's a plastic latch that keeps the door closed. Well, that snapped into 3 pieces yesterday when I closed the door. It won't work without the latch, as there's a switch inside there that makes it all work.

    I epoxied the thing back together, but I still want to buy a new one. A quick Google search tells me that it's a common problem with these. I did find a part number (131279000) on the piece, and I've found them as cheap as $10. The problem is that a lot of the sites I've found the part on look like they are from the dawn of the internet.

    Does anyone have a trusted place online they can get parts from? Thanks in advance!

    Repair Clinic.

    This place it by far the best in the business.

    I have used them several times and never received the wrong part. All parts are photographed on a one inch grid. Even if you don't know what the part is called you can find it.

    I ordered some replacement parts for my GE dishwasher through ApplianceZone.com. I got some great pre-sale online chat, the prices were fair, and the parts were delivered quickly.

    Check locally, too. There's a place in town ("Double D appliance repair", which refers to the fact that the two guys who run it have names that start with D, not the other thing) that is great to deal with and can give preemptive suggestions as well. Not a big shiny store and if they had a website, I'll bet it would look like the dawn of the internet. But good guys, local and very helpful. I'll bet every town has one.

    I've ordered stuff from easyappliance.com. The prices are a bit high but every washer and dryer contains approximately 10 million dollars worth of parts. You order from exploded drawings so that makes everything easier. Shipping is fast and the stuff shows up in about a week. It would be faster on the east coast I'm sure.

    Also, +1 on Keith's local guy scenario. Usually, your local parts purveyor might have an idea about how to disassemble the outer housing. Some of them are not obvious or they're tricky and these guys may know a shortcut or two.

    I got old parts for my washing machine from them, too.

    (and bonus for us in SE MI- we can drive to a depot in Canton).

    +1 on this one. The repair guy from Sears showed me this site and the difference in price for the parts !

    I'll check around town. My town seems to have everything, including a nice red Miata up the street from my house that I noticed yesterday. It had some weird intercooler behind the front bumper with some weird stencil that said FM on it.

    For the record, I used some plastic epoxy on the broken part, and it surprisingly worked really well! I hope it holds up until I get the replacement part.

    +2. Of course, I'm spoiled as there's an appliance parts place in an old supermarket within walking distance of my house. It's like walking into an old-school auto parts store.
