I've played both, and like airsoft better. Mainly because it more accurately resembles a real gun, which is what I'm used to.

My biggest problem with airsoft is how much it tries to be real. Paintball is starting to head that way with "milsim" crap. However I admit I've never played it.

never played but I know a few of my older paintball buddies did...

seemed like it could be fun and a lot cheaper for an outing then PBing...

People who get WAY too into Airsoft guns and get obsessive over using genuine issue uniforms, Alice packs, and other equipment really creep me out. They seem like people whose mommies won't let them have real guns or join the military. OP, you're not dressed in digital camo, so I'll give you a pass.

But if I remember he was dressed in camo when he had the Olds towed away from the Challenge ;)

Now I have done airsoft. It was an impromtu "woodsball" game at a graduation party. In the end I was given some guys cheap $40 full auto M-4.

I'm considering buying a cheap P-90 and an SG-1 harness for cosplay if I end up going to a sci-fi con. Or just to have because I'm a total Stargate fan boy

If I could find people to play with I would try to pick up a good gun. Oh well.

So I take it you have a zat already?

    In reply to lewbud:

I have not found a Zat yet, But the people that make the P-90 harness have a drop leg Zat holster.

Edit- A quick search of ebay shows a few, but any would cost more than the rest of the outfit

Well, I've always found concrete mixing to be a little messy.

The only downside of airsoft is that it doesn't make a mess, so one of my friends does not hesitate to snipe me with his semi-auto DE .50 when I show up at his house. Generally I resort to tackling him and stealing the battery pack.

    Those little buggers hurt.

Is airsoft less painful than paint ball? if so, count me in. Seriously though, what ever happened to laser tag?

From my exsperiance, Airsoft doesn't hurt too bad. But I havent taken a paintball hit, so I can't compare.

I've done PB once, (boy did I suck out there! lol), but was more into Airsoft. Simply because it was less messy, and the guns more realistic.

I had a few guns over the years, the best was a G3 SG-1. I recently sold this to downsize to an MP5 or G3 SAS.

In my opinion, airsoft can sting quite a bit (been hit hard by an M16 with a lipo battery that shot close to 500fps...it was an full auto too). It won't leave welts (unless you got shot close by), but you can definately feel it if the guns are over 250fps.

I myself only wore camo pants. I've been out with the ppl who do go full gear and it actually makes it more fun.

Airsoft hurts less but those little pellets can still jack you up. My AK shoots at like 400 fps and has a very high rate of fire.... probable like 10 shots a second, maybe more. If a person is trigger happy then can really hose you down. If you get shot within 20 feet you will occasionally bleed and even leave a little scar/bump after it heals so i would recommend something to cover your face. Wouldnt want to loose a tooth.

Like paintballs they loose a lot of accuracy at range. CQB type fights as a result tend to be the most fun. Within 40 feet they tend to be right on.

I guess its a bit more real than paintball but your guns still have no recoil and my AK has a 400 round clip.

    IMO

Biggest downside: Dosnt leave a mark so more people cheat (dont play with kids).

Biggest upside: CHEAP. Paintballs cost $$$. little plastic pellets cost practically nothing.

Most fun i ever had was playing pistols only at a course some guys setup next to a warehouse. They had used shipping containers and pallets as obstacles and built ladders and bridges between the shipping containers to create a 2 story field.

LOL talk 'bout bring back memories....when I was 19 I was on a traveling competitive laser tag team, been to vegas, virginia beach, and west palm for tourneys.

the pellets are like $20 for about 5000 rounds, a gun will run for an ok chine knockoff some where around from $100 to $150, and then you can get a m-60 for around $500, a BAR $1400, a kickass minigun $7000...

the pellets are not bad, they will sting a little, but make sure of the field you are using cause most places dont al;low anything over 350fps, anything over that is sniper weapon with a mini range of 100'. there is also the mini range of 10' for shooting but sometimes in the heat you will tag some one closer though. it happens though.
