I never thought you had to worry about flooding up on the side of a small mountain. Yesterday I went to the cabin my wife and I bought to fix and re-sell.. It seems that in the month since I had been there, there was enough rain to flood the place 12"-18" deep. All the new carpet, drywall, paneling, wood flooring etc. is ruined. There is mold and mildew everywhere. Even some of the subfloor is buckled from the water. It looks like I have a huge project ahead to get the place back in shape. This is really frustrating because the inside was all finished and I just needed to do some siding and a little paint work ouside to be complete. Did I mention my first race of the season is 2 weeks away and I still am not done with the new to me Toterhome? But, life goes on and I stll have my physical, if not mental, health.

I feel for ya. There's a lot of that going on with people who thought they were safe and it just sucks.

You said ON THE SIDE of a small mountain? Doesn't water roll downhill? I'm not trying to be funny, 'cuz my folks live in Pa. and one house they owned was at the bottom of a hill. When it rained, a neighbor's driveway acted as a sort of funnel to channel large amounts of rainwater into my parents cellar. It took about 2 or 3 big storms before my folks broke down and installed a sump pump and also got pallets to place any "valuables" on to keep them off the floor 'til the sump pump kicked in.

that really sucks.. sorry to hear for the misfortune. If you had been there when it happened, you might not have had to deal with the mold too

The cabin sat vacant for several years before we bought it and was dry as a bone. It appears that the run off water was 18" deep aginst the front of the cabin and the floor is only 12" above grade at the front. I'm just west of Gettysburg and we set all kinds of records for rain in April. I have to get in there and start cleaning it up, but it looks like it will have be completely gutted.

Yeah... we got a LOT of rain this year. Sorry for your troubles. There has been an awful lot of carpeting and drywall out for the garbage man in the last month.
