Working my way through some slow moving traffic I slipped in between two cars and then a dog ran out in front of me. I managed to slow down enough to not kill the dog but the guy behind me got rear-ended. From his point of view I came up with a pretty decent speed advantage, cut him off and slammed on my brakes. I didn't stick around to see if he was mad.

My karma for that event was slightly wrecking my miata. Trying to turn left into traffic my view was blocked by a UPS truck. A nice lady in a suburban let me out. I assumed when she waved me out she had looked to see if any cars were coming. She didn't. I hit a car the second I cleared the UPS truck enough to see into oncoming traffic. The lady in the suburban took off down the street I turned out out of the second I hit that car, leaving single strip of rubber about 80ft long on the road. Witnesses were surprised she didn't kill anyone with the ferocity she used trying to get away.

During an autocross one of my competitors in STS just finished his Saturn build and he let me run it during non-comp runs. He likes his car loose in the back. Came around the last section before the finish line into a slalom. Hit a dirty spot and the car just understeered into the jersey water barriers we had. POOF! whole lotta water came shooting out of the barrier about 50 feet into the air, then SLAM onto his car :) Lucky he has his sunroof closed, but i washed his car. I scuffed the bumper a little :)

The other one that comes to mind was last year. There is this guy on a blue motorcycle who acts like a real dumb ass. Passing people with double yellow lines, going like 100+mph in a 45mph zone. This has been happening for about a year or so. He passed about 10 cars on this 2 lane road, so you know I despise him.

On my way home from teaching this guy on the blue motorcycle started tailgating me again. As we were going up a small incline I started to catch up to a pick-up with a camper attached. Not sure if he wasn't paying attention, but I started to slow down (not using my brakes, just letting the engine slow me down). Next thing I know I hear "SCREEEEEECH!" and then BAM! as he and the bike hit the ground, and part of the bike dinged my car. I look out my window and see him sliding past me. I see him get up and try to get his bike off the ground in the on coming traffic lane. He was lucky to be wearing leathers and a helmet.

Maybe I should have stopped but he looked ok, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking "Karma does work" Sound mean?

Oh, I did think of another one I 'may" have caused. I was traveling down the 101 south of San Fransisco in the right lane. Going along peacefully I recall it kind of like a series of frames in a movie:

1st Frame: looking down the freeway,

2nd Frame: looking at the topside of the hood,

3rd Frame: looking down the freeway.

I looked in the rear view mirror to see the hood skidding down the freeway and the cars behind it swerving widely. I did not stick around to see what happened after that, I took the next exit and headed to a friends house (which is where I was going anyway) where I coincidentally had a spare hood.

When I was a kid, I had this crummy pair of pants I used when I was getting dirty, my work pants. One day while helping dad work on the ballfields, nature called and I went to do my business...unfortunately, the rusty snap on my pants had started to get troublesome. I struggled in the portapotty for a minute while staring down the urinal and with all my pre-teen might I just couldn't get my fly open because of that rusty snap. That's the only accident I know I caused.

I once nearly slid off of a really steep hill/almost cliff in the Virgin islands.

I was trying to slow down for a turn and the brakes locked on my dad's jeep as soon as touched them at 35mph. I came to a stop with the the car caught by the front right and back left tires. The front tire was hanging over the edge, and the back right was about 3 feet in the air.

Okay, I'm not sure whether this qualifies--not because I'm unsure whether I caused it (I did) but because it wasn't exactly an accident. Though it is the only crash I've ever been in.

Years ago, I was waiting to exit a tire store's driveway that happened to be about half a block before the stoplight for a busy intersection, which had traffic backed up and waiting for the light to change (it was red). Since the traffic was stopped, I nosed in front of an incredibly crappy van that was next in the line of traffic, but I didn't have room to pull into the lane completely. Just got the front half of the car in there to block. Then I gave the van's driver the "Hey, can I get in--thanks" eye-contact-and-wave deal.

Well, the guy just glared at me, which made me think he had a bad attitude, so when the light changed some 30 seconds later, I gave a snottier wave that said, "thanks for nothing, rude guy, I'm in front of you anyway," and pulled into the lane--and he gunned it into me.

After the "accident," he refused to back up so I could extricate my car from his bumper and get the cars to the side of the road. Wouldn't look at me, either. Just kept saying he wanted the cops to see that I had failed to yield the right of way, so the cars weren't moving.

Cops came, he told his story, I told mine. I didn't get a ticket and was not found to be at fault, despite glaring guy's yelling--the cop said, "I think I see what happened here." Then he told me not to pull out in front of cars that had less to lose than I did.

    Good lesson, there.

My very first accident I rear ended a guy. I was driving a crappy old 65 Chevy II Nova and I hit an Jag XKE. We pulled into a parking lot to look at the cars. All it did to his car was knock the reverse light off the bumper but his bumper pushed in my grill. At first he was mad but after I apologized profusely and started asking him about his car he cooled off and really got into showing me his XKE. Told me not to worry about the accident since it really didn't hurt his car too much.

We stood there for about 15 minutes talking with the engines running. All of a sudden steam starts blowing out of his radiator. I had knocked a wire to his fans loose when I hit him so now his car was overheating.

A few years later while driving a big Suburban a guy in a miniture Honda slamed on his brakes to try to go the wrong way up an off ramp. To keep from killing him I jump up on the median and took out a sign post. Pulling over to inspect the damage I watched him drive away. I shruged it off, got back in the truck and drove up the on ramp then had to stop behind traffic waiting to get on the interstate. While sitting there I get rear ended by a lady in a BMW. It just scuffed my bump but pushed the hood back on her car. I told her I'm willing to forget it but you have to explain that to your husband. Two accidents within 5 minutes.

I slid off track while ice racing, took the guy on the outside with me. He stuffed it into a snow bank and I scurried off. It was THE place that, if you were going off, his car was right there. Almost every car on every lap thereafter hit that corner a little harder knowing they could use his SAAB 99 as a ricochet point.

All he could do was stand and watch....

I got in a verbal disagreement with the mrs from which she was so upset she stormed out to the garage, jumped in her car and tried to tear backwards out of the driveway. She backed right in to the pushbar of my truck at about 20.

To this day she claims I caused the accident.

My g/f was driving from her house to mine to pick me up... and hit a road gator (re-tread) on the highway... breaking the head light, fog light and bumper cover of her MINI...

Of course, this was all my fault...

I've rear-ended a few cars in my time... all going pretty slow so damage was minimal...

    That's a sig line!!!!

I don't count anything done offroading as an "accident", even if I landed and got caught on a small stump after juping the lip of a berm...

other than that, I've been rear ended a bunch of times, but the only time I could say it might be "caused" by me was when I was in my folks' Renault Alliance and I accellerated hard from a traffic light and got rear ended by the truck in back of me that accellerated faster. Damn car was just too slow... ;)

I caused a parking lot scrape. Only accident I've ever been in, despite the retarded public's best efforts.

Oh, yeah, and I'm also "guilty" of this thread topic, only in reverse. Seems my brother was not planned, but after he arrived, my parents decided he needed a playmate--me. So technically I was caused by an accident.

Hmm. Caused? Maybe could be listed that way. A car was following me in my Toyota 4X extra down a twisty road and didn't make the sweeper at the bottom after I started pulling away.

I've been in a few accidents. The ones that were my fault were minor. I caused an accident I wasn't involved in. I was pulling a car trailer around a blind corner in the rain. On the other side the cars in my lane were stopped. I braked and slid. I had no where to go and was gonna crash. Guy next to me figures out what's happening and brakes hard to make a hole for me to get through. I did and he got rear ended. I didn't stop. I figured no good could come of it. Still feel bad about it though...
