I have a dishnetwork dish at my disposal. What would you do with it? It has two of the, uh, pods at the end of the arm. I was told one of these allows for HD reception. What can I do with this dish? Can I somehow snag beams? Made a shallow bird bath? make one hubcap for a front end loader?

If any of you know much about these things I'll post the numbers off of it.

there are several free (and legit/legal) FTA receivers (both set top and PC cards) you can pull in some neat NASA / Oddball stations with it.

I heard you could snag Canadian satellite TV relatively easily, which is cool because they don't have censorship laws like we do.

I have never tried it, just passing along the hearsay.

I took the swivel mount off the end and am looking for a use for it. The rest is going in the scrap heap.

Those are called LNBs, Low Noise Block downconverters. They will receive and downconvert signals from anything you care to point them at, but they have no magical decoder/decompression technology. The set top box does all that.

You can pick up a number of unencrypted feeds from various birds across the sky.

Or search for aliens, chart pulsars, broadcast wifi to the next town...

DItto... been in the corner of my garage for about 2 years. probably should just scrap it. Then I'll come up with a use within days.
