Odd question: Can the Senior kids get a redo for next year?
I took a few days off from this thread, for my sanity's sake.
Most importantly, my sympathy to Wally and family for their loss.
The factory has been running six days a week for the last three weeks. My normal workweek has gone from 50-55hrs to ~70, and week one was 80 hrs.
So, if any of y'all are concerned about running low on bacon or sausage, relax... we're making food as fast as we can.
On an unrelated note, I sure am tired...

In an interesting twist, I read something from Bloomberg that said eggs, beef, and chicken were all in high demand and getting cleared out. Bacon, however, was not expericing the same surge and pork belly futures were actually dropping. Apparently everybody likes to eat bacon but nobody likes to actually go through the process of cooking bacon so once the restaurants cratered, the bacon market skidded a bit.
One thing about this whole situation is that I think we're going to learn an awful lot about ourselves before it's all over. Economists and sociologists are going to be publishing for decades about this!

They must not have gotten the memo out west.
Our retail accounts (grocery stores, etc) are going nuts. We never work six day weeks... but we cannot pack it fast enough. Topping it off, I'm in maintenance, which means I'm here anytime they are running.

Interesting. It does seem to depend on the store. I went to the local store on Tuesday and some items are starting to get back to normal. Some shelves are still bare - TP and PT, for example - although they did have an end-cap full of deluxe store brand TP. The egg shelves were mostly full as were the milk shelves. The cereal selection was reduced, but I'm not going hungry.
Items that expire and get replaced on a regular basis normally are generally in stock. Hard goods that typically just sit on the shelves until sold have been slower to get.
It'll be interesting to see what has changed when I go back again next week. Or maybe on Sunday. I've been eating a lot of salads while at home in an effort to eat healthier and I may need to restock in a couple of days.
But I agree - this whole thing will keep academics busy for awhile.

No, apparently if they were "on track" to graduate, they will be graduated. Right now, we're just hoping they are able to at least have a ceremony at some point down the road.

Both of my older kids are graduating this year (kid#2 is a year early) and we're waiting on the official news that both of them are completely done. We know kid#1 is done for in person classes and we're waiting for her to be able to move her stuff home from the dorm at the school she attends. Kid#2 is doing a minimum of work because he knows they'll just give everyone B's and move on. The big question is whether in person college classes will start in the fall or if they'll both be attending out of state schools from my living room.
In reply to kazoospec :
I think the other issue would be the cascade effect if the kids aren't move forward a grade for next fall.
The school system and class sizing are based on a majority of kids moving to the next grade and a new class of kindergarteners coming in to keep the cycle full. Any deviation could create an increase (or doubling) of a class size for one or more grades in the fall and the next 12 years as they move through the school system.

I've not been to the the store a whole lot in the last week, but I did stop in for a couple things. Any sort of pasta or noodle has been unavailable every time I've been in the store the last two or three weeks or whatever. I guess the good news is that I have the equipment to make my own pasta and, frankly, it's better than the dried stuff anyway. I did discover that even in a pandemic, people do have limits:

Have you had gluten free noodles? E36 M3 ain't food....
Rubbery in a way that resists chewing, like....in Soviet Russia noodle chew you way

I just went to the international market and got some rice noodles, they had plenty of stock in most things.
(rant deleted)
Not sure if these will ship internationally, but locally we can order 10-packs of home test kits for about $270 (limit two per house). It can detect the antibodies 5 days after infection. Wasnt sure if it'd be of interest to anyone.

I am not unsympathetic to people that actually have that celiac disorder or disease or whatever it is. I don't really know much about it, but I realize that it's a thing and they really do need to avoid gluten. But it seems like trying to make things that are wheat products "gluten free" would be like having an "guitar free" album from Interstellar Sledgehammer.

My girlfriend is going through something similar. She is finally graduating with her BA next month..........but doesn't get to walk across the stage.
Yesterday was literally the first day I've left our property since Saturday. Wife and I walked a mile with the oldest. That was her 2nd walk of the day and even at 12, this pooch is loving it. Even if she is a cat-dog (dog form, cat attitude).

I found similar "limits", except at my Kroger it was Beef Broth. Still can't figure out why it was avoided.

Minor confession? I hate graduation ceremonies and think they're really dumb. First realized it in 8th grade... Why did I have to dress up and go to school on a Saturday? Then in HS, I tried to get out of it and go fishing, or go to work, but my mom said this is important and I'll regret it if I didn't go. That was 12 years ago, I regret not going to work and making $100 cash. For college, my girlfriend (now wife) insisted I go. Grumble. I finally "won" when my girlfriend (now wife) said she didn't want to go to her graduation ceremony for her Masters. Woo.
Obviously I'm in the minority here.

I didn't care about it because I finished when I was young.
But after talking with my mom yesterday (who graduated with her degree my freshman year of college), I understand why it's important because she has been working full-time, taking care of the house and animals and me, and also was able to finally finish up her studies. I'm proud of her for getting it finished and sad she doesn't get to participate in the ceremony she was looking forward to.

I don't value them and never had any desire to participate in them. That said, I understand that some people value them and some people think putting stiff springs and sticky tires on a Miata is pointless.
I feel sorry for those who wanted to participate in those ceremonies who won't have the chance.
